Shifting Gears!

So Kristin's finally home and starting to feel better- I think everyone- including her and I- expected the thyroid hormones to have a greater effect sooner. Doesn't matter much now, though- she's about 70-80% of what her energy levels were before, which is enough to make both of us feel like "normal" is just around the corner.

To celebrate her feeling better (and my belated birthday), we went to the store on base and bought bikes. We love them, and being in such a bike-friendly culture we felt like we were missing out on a key part of the culture. I got a blue helmet to match my sporty "UK blue and white" bike (as Kristin describes it), and Kristin chose pink to complement her "girliness." She got a cool black bike. I just had to fix up the bikes and inflate the tires before I went to work that day, so we could ride up and down the street like a couple of kids. I think some of the neighborhood kids were a little jealous of us because we obviously enjoyed them so much! Since we got them, I've run an errand on base and Kristin and I have taken a short ride on base. The ride really tuckered Kristin out, but that's completely normal for her at this stage, and it's a good thing she's out and active. We're swearing to each other that this month or next we WILL get off the base, out of town, and out into the German country to do some travelling. We're both REALLY looking forward to it. We're just waiting on Kristin to feel a little better, and have a little more energy.

In the meantime, It seems like Kristin has at least one doctor visit a week, and I work every four days on my 12 hour shifts. I've been at the job long enough to see about 75% of my fellow watchstanders rotate away, either from reserve duty or longevity. I'm now surprisingly, one of the "old men" on the watchstanding team, despite having been doing it for only a few months.

All for now- we'll have to post some pictures of us on the bikes later- we haven't been able to get any shots yet. :)
