The Zoo

This week Tyler and I spent a rainy Saturday at the Wilhelma Zoo in downtown Stuttgart. The zoo is a combined botanical garden rich with architecture. Originally built as a King Wilhelm's residence and gardens, the grounds are now used as a large zoo. The architecture of the building is all in a Moorish style which was "all the rage" in the 19th century.

These buildings were definitely worthy of royalty.

I had never seen a peacock spread it's feathers in person before! Yeah, Zebras!

Tyler with his favorite, the monkeys and what Tyler sees when he looks in the mirror.
More monkeys.

Uncle Gene, is that you??

Eis mit das Eisbar. (Or ice cream with the polar bear)
Ooooh a tiger and mein tiger. RRRRRRRRRRRR.

The beautiful Moorish architecture.

We were able to get very, very close to these penguins (I could have picked one up and put it in my purse). In fact one crazy German lady was letting a penguin bite her finger. I was just waiting for it to bite her finger off or for her to contract wild penguin rabies. Seriously, we were NOT at a petting zoo. She kept saying "Ouch, ouch!" DUH. I'm not really sure what she thought was going to happen when she stuck her finger in the penguin's face.
Look ma, I'm in Happy Feet.

In the green house and watching a bear.

NEXT WEEK: PRAGUE!
