For the third day in Mom and Dad Brooks' visit, we took them to Strasbourg, France. Strasbourg is just over the border with Germany, and one of our favorite places. We love the cathedral, the cute old town, the food, and I get to practice my French, too. This was also Lucy's first trip to France. As expected, she enjoyed her trip, and got lots of cuddle time on the way there with Mom.
Dad and I get the girls lunch at a bakery. I served as translator from Tennessean to English to French. It was fun to try a few different treats, too.
2 cute and hungry ladies sandwich the sandwich guy.
Lucy was loving the park we ate our sandwiches in. (She wasn't smoking- she just found a spot to lay down in that had a few cigarette butts laying around.)
Dad and the girls have some gelato from our favorite Italian-style gelato chain store. Even though we were in France, the menu was in Italian!
Strasbourg's oldest house is the dark brown one with the stone first floor. Old tax laws taxed the footprint of a building, so it was common to see buildings jut out at the second floor level, and build high, like this one.
Kristin liked the color of these shutters so much, she had to have her picture taken next to them.
The cathedral's rose window from the outside.
The stained glass lit up the inside of the church.
Mom and Dad pose in front of the gingerbread-like cathedral.
Here I am with the Brooks in front of one of the prettiest buildings in Strasbourg. Flower boxes can do so much for a building, can't they?
Lucy the "Grand-dog" gets some attention from her "Grandma."
A view of the canal that runs through old town Strasbourg, making it even more picturesque. The city places little flower boxes on the bridges over the canal, and waters the flowers daily. We thought that was a great idea, too.
After visiting Strasbourg, we took the girls to Soufflenheim, another French border town we've visited before that is a pottery lover's dream. The girls enjoyed the shopping, while Dad and I enjoyed taking the purchased goods on long, slow walks back to the car.
AAAAND... after all that Frenchy-French stuff, we took Mom and Dad back to Stuttgart Germany for some GREEK food. Hey- when you're in Europe, you gotta make the best of your opportunity to enjoy ALL the culture you can, right?
